Swiss Medical Network becomes a shareholder of Hôpital du Jura bernois – Wineus advises on the acquisition process
Swiss Medical Network (“SMN”), a 100% subsidiary of AEVIS VICTORIA SA has acquired a 35% stake in Hôpital du Jura bernois SA (“HJBE”) from the canton of Bern.
The agreement foresees an option for SMN to acquire a majority stake in HJBE within three years. This innovative approach provides a sustainable solution for the future of HJBE and guarantees healthcare services for a peripheral region. It will ensure the safeguarding of a comprehensive range of acute somatic and psychiatric care services in the rapidly changing hospital landscape. Although private hospitals are an established player in the Swiss healthcare sector, the acquisition of HJBE is the first time that a private group has acquired a stake in a public hospital. The acquisition marks a milestone in the strategic positioning of SMN and provides potential for further development in form of further public-private-partnerships.
